With the election over, the playing field is just taking shape
States are still counting votes, pollsters are still sifting through exit polls, but we can be sure that the immigration issue - our issue -- lower immigration - was a critical factor in President Trump winning back the White House.
NumbersUSA issued this statement at midnight:
Based on all available returns and forecasts, it appears that President Trump has won the election. On behalf of our millions of grassroots activists and supporters, NumbersUSA extends its congratulations.
Trump won largely due to his signature issue of immigration. Trump promised to reestablish the rule of law, both at the border and in the interior of the country. This clearly resonated with voters appalled by the Biden-Harris administration's open border policies, which have brought in the largest number of immigrants -- both legal and illegal -- of any single-term administration in history. America was on pace to add 35 million new foreign residents in a single decade, an unsustainable increase that'd make it harder for American citizens to afford housing, secure good-paying jobs, and improve their quality of life.
In his speech at the Republican National Convention, JD Vance promised that "we're done importing foreign labor, we're going to fight for American citizens and their good jobs and their good wages." NumbersUSA looks forward to working with President-elect Trump, Vice President-elect Vance, and members of both parties in Congress to make such reforms a reality.
For many Americans, election night is like the Super Bowl. When it's over, half the people are elated and half are deflated (that's a Super Bowl joke), but the game is over. That's not how we view the election.
Last night was important, but it wasn't the game. The election will shape the playing field and who's going to be on it. When the whistle blows, the NumbersUSA citizen lobby needs to be on that field.
President Trump will use his executive authority to enforce the law far more than President Biden did. Executive action is not enough. We've just witnessed what happens when lasting, legislative restrictions are not put in place. Biden overthrew Trump's immigration policies in his first week in office.
The results of this election put us in a better position to achieve an immigration policy that is credible, just, and sustainable. View our immigration guides for Trump and Vance.
Still, the playing field will not be devoid of policy opponents.
We will be there to apply helpful pressure to Congress and the White House to achieve lasting, legislative change. Stay with us. Our country needs you.
Thank you for all that you do,
