*‘Katha’ Exhibition: Evolving Identities [ [link removed] ]*

*Launching from: Friday 8th November 2024*

*Opens to the public:* 11 am

*11 am – 12 pm :* Meet & greet by NTU students

Our Nottingham City Museum’s curators have been working with Nottingham Trent University in relation to our World Cultures collections.

Each student has interpreted an individual object from Indian Collections, to form the basis of a spotlight exhibition for Diwali.

Katha showcases Indian artefacts from the archives of the Nottingham Castle Museum, most of which were brought to Nottingham to inspire the lace workers. Other objects were taken to Britain and kept in various personal collections or museums, which stripped them of their original meaning and context. They are now unused and unloved, living in storage spaces or behind glass cabinets in collections. The exhibition seeks to reconnect these objects with their homes by telling their stories.

The exhibition honours the artisans who made them and their skills, since most of them were never documented. Their contributions to India’s cultural and design legacy, as well as the world’s design aesthetics, manufacturing techniques and material wisdom are profound.

We invite you to experience "Katha", through the various workshops, displays, performances and podcast episodes, and join us in narrating the evolution of our cultural, design and personal identities

Standard Admission – Pay once, visit all year round – Adults: £15, Kids Go Free (up to 15 years, 3 per paying adult).
