Good morning John,
Although I’m afraid it isn’t at all. If you’re just waking up to the result, it looks like a Trump victory is certain.
Like you, I am anxious, frustrated, and a bit heartbroken. But it’s vital that you, and I, don’t give into despair.
Yes, his victory is likely to embolden authoritarians around the world, and encourage the hard right here in the UK. And that’s why I need you to remain defiant.
With a new Trump White House, Britain looks increasingly isolated - again. And let us be honest, Europe has not done enough to prepare itself for this eventuality.Â
We must all ask what this means for Ukraine. What this means for the hard right at home here in the United Kingdom, who are now undoubtedly emboldened.
At 6:30pm GMT this evening Alex and I will be joined by two highly-respected guests for a Best for Britain / Quiet Riot live podcast special:
- Lord Malloch-Brown, outgoing president of Open Society Foundations and former diplomat, journalist and Deputy Secretary-General of the UN
- Matthew McGregor, CEO of 38 Degrees and former Obama campaign staffer
We’ll be examining the latest updates from across the pond and discussing what Trump’s victory means for the UK, Europe and the World.
Join us live across our social media channels (Facebook <[link removed]>, YouTube <[link removed]> and Linkedin <[link removed]>) at 6.30pm on Wednesday 6 November.
I hope you can be with us.
Today is a day for taking stock of what has just happened. But from tomorrow, with you right behind us, Best for Britain stands ready to:
- Counter the wave of hate his victory may unleash, especially from Trump allies like Nigel Farage
- Give British politicians and voters the data and messaging that they need to dispel dangerous misinformation and populist politicsÂ
- And crucially, as Trump threatens to undermine NATO, halt funding for Ukraine and unleash economic chaos, to press the UK Government to deepen ties with our European allies.Â
Prevaricating over our relationship with Europe must end.
I know that you care as deeply as I do, and even if you can’t join us later I’ll be writing to you all again in the coming days. See you this evening.
In defiance,
Naomi Smith
CEO
