Dear John,
It's after 10 PM on the West Coast, and we find ourselves in a limbo that has echoes of 2020. Millions of votes remain to be counted, and we don’t yet have confirmation in the presidential race—along with the majority of our 53 races here at Sister District. But, we must allow the process to play out as planned.
We are excited to share the Sister District wins that we know so far, including holding the Minnesota House, and breaking the Republican supermajority in the North Carolina House, which will improve the lives of millions of people in these states. We are also thrilled for these incredible candidates who won tonight:
- Michelle Au (Georgia HD-50)
- Jasmine Clark (Georgia HD-108)
- Patty Kim (Pennsylvania SD-15)
- Mandy Steele (Pennsylvania HD-33)
- Arvind Venkat (Pennsylvania HD-30)
- Lisa Grafstein (North Carolina SD-13)
- Dante Pittman (North Carolina HD-24)
- Ann Johnson Stewart (Minnesota SD-45)
Like you, we are eager for more official calls. But we also know that every vote must be counted—carefully and thoroughly. And whether we will soon be celebrating hard-fought wins or grappling with tough losses, one thing we know is certain: state legislatures remain our last line of defense for our freedoms and our democracy. The work in the states continues, and we must remain vigilant in the face of both progress and setbacks.
No matter how tonight's results unfold, we know that the fight for progress is bigger than one election night or one election cycle. And we take heart that over the last eight years, we have organized, educated, and engaged millions of Americans in the political process. Every call, text, and conversation that you have had with voters and fellow activists has helped build a stronger, more resilient movement for years to come.
We’ll be updating our social media feeds and website with further results as they come in, and we will be sharing more results and analysis during our 2024 Election Debrief call on Thursday, November 14.
We are incredibly thankful for the incredible Sister District community. It has been an honor to fight for the future we believe in side-by-side. No matter what happens, hope will continue to burn brightly, and we will continue to push for progress together.
In solidarity and anticipation,
—The Sister District Team
