Welcome to our October Wrap-Up Newsletter! After a busy September in session, October brought the chance to be back home in Alabama’s Second Congressional District, working hard for you. This month, we proudly supported veteran-owned small businesses, defended your voice in the election process, strengthened our community’s resilience and stood strong for Alabama's agricultural heritage. Team Moore is committed to making sure your values are represented, and we're pushing forward to make each month count for our district! I work for you, and I’m committed to making your voice heard. Stay in the loop with my latest efforts by following me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Your involvement is the backbone of our movement. Need help with the VA, IRS, or Social Security Administration? My office is ready to assist. Call us at the numbers below or visit my website. | Rep. Barry Moore Member of Congress | Helping Veteran-owned small businesses | I recently introduced legislation along with my colleagues, Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) and Rep. Jake Ellzey (TX-06), to expand opportunities for Veteran-owned small businesses. This bill amends the Small Business Act to include surviving children in the definition of a small business owned and controlled by a service-disabled veteran. This would allow the children of deceased service-disabled Veteran small business owners to temporarily run the business for a maximum of three years after the Veteran small business owner passes away. As a Veteran and former small business owner, I know that these businesses are the lifeblood of families and communities nationwide, and I am proud to introduce legislation that allows for this graceful transition! | Release the January 6th inspector general report today! | Earlier this month, I signed a letter led by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) warning that AG Merrick Garland will face consequences if the DOJ is found to have obstructed the release of the Investigator General's report on the DOJ's involvement in the events of January 6th, 2021. This letter follows testimony by the DOJ's Inspector General, who suggested that the FBI had confidential human sources on the Capitol grounds that day and that the DOJ may be delaying the release of his final report on the matter. | Alabama celebrated National Farmer Day this month to recognize these hardworking Americans. Over 8.6 million acres are covered by 37,000 Alabama farms. Producers raise cattle, cotton, peanuts, and more to line shop shelves and fill dinner tables. The Biden-Harris economy has risen input prices and decreased commodity prices, forcing farmers, ranchers, and foresters to survive on reference prices and the farm safety net.
After hearing from producers across the state at my Farm Bill listening sessions, raising these reference prices to help producers survive was my top House Agriculture Committee priority. Alabama farmers are our backbone, and we will always be grateful for their dedication, on National Farmer Day and every day. It is past time we step in and get them the help they need to keep Alabama strong. | Our Founding Fathers intended a nation in which American citizens' voices would decide the future of our democracy. They believed that the right to vote in federal elections should be limited for those with a role in the country's future, specifically American citizens. The idea makes sure the direction of our country reflects the will of its citizens. Today, your vote gives you the opportunity to make a difference and continue forward that mission. Click here to confirm your registration status, ballot status, polling location, and address. | Only U.S. citizens should vote | Earlier this month, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released statistics revealing that the Biden-Harris administration allowed more than 425,000 convicted criminals into the country this year. A few weeks ago, a "coding error" allowed nearly 200,000 Arizonans to vote without providing proof of citizenship. One of the most important responsibilities Americans have is the right to vote, and we should never jeopardize that process by allowing noncitizens to vote.
That is why I supported the SAVE Act and will continue to fight to secure our southern border and end the invasion of our communities. I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that only Americans can vote in American elections! | Interested in marching in the 60th Inaugural Parade? | The Joint Task Force-National Capital Region will be accepting applications for groups to march in the 60th Inaugural Parade through December 4, 2024! The parade will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025 in Washington, D.C. Please apply if you are interested, and best of luck! | Safe Haven Blessing Boxes | My staff recently attended the unveiling of two Safe Haven Blessing Box locations, one at the Central Fire Station in Enterprise and two at Fire Station #3 in Dothan. These boxes offer a secure place for parents or caregivers in crisis to surrender their child anonymously. The outside door automatically locks when a newborn is placed inside. An interior door allows medical personnel to retrieve the baby promptly for immediate care. My staff were also able to provide other attendees with a legislative update on the work I am doing on your behalf in DC. Thanks to those in our community who helped create these boxes! | Thank you MOAA for having us! | This past month, my Director of Constituent Services, Shannon, was the guest speaker at the Ft. Novosel Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America to discuss how we can help our enlisted and veteran constituents. Thanks to MOAA for having us and allowing Shannon the opportunity to give all attendees an update on the work I am doing on their behalf in Washington. | 75 years of Yancey Parker's | Some of my staff recently joined the Parker family to celebrate 75 years of Yancey Parker's and provide everyone with a legislative update! Yancey Parker's is the oldest family-run men's store in the state of Alabama. | Catching up at Camellia's | Thank you to everyone who came out and joined me to catch up at Camellia's in Greenville this week. We had wonderful food and conversation and providing attendees with a legislative update on the work being done in DC for you! | Meeting with Enterprise officials | This past month, I met with Mayor Cooper and other Enterprise officials to hear their concerns regarding the influx of migrants in our community. In June of this year, I supported an amendment to the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations bill that would have stopped funding the CHNV program that is fueling this influx. Unfortunately, it did not pass. I will continue working with community officials to protect American families and bring back the successful immigration policies of President Donald Trump. | Learn more about the work I am doing on behalf of the 2nd District in Washington! | Washington, D.C. 1504 Longworth House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 Phone: (202) 225-2901 | Andalusia 505 E 3 Notch St Suite 322 Andalusia, AL 36420 Phone: (334) 428-1129 Fax: (334) 222-3342 | Wetumpka 408 S.
