If you are experiencing complex emotions around incoming presidential election results, you are not alone. LGBTQ+ affirming mental health support is available through entities such as Trans Lifeline (877-565-8860), the Trevor Project (call 1-866-488-7386 or text START to 678-678), and the LGBT National Hotline (888-843-4564).

Hey John —

It's 7:00 PM, which means polls are officially closed in Virginia (by the way-- if you're still in line to vote, stay in line). As we all wait for results to come in, we want to share one piece of advice: Patience is key on election night .

With more Americans voting by mail, counting ballots may take time, and early results can shift as mail-in and absentee votes are processed. In some states, processing can’t begin until Election Day, which might delay final outcomes. This may mean waiting a few days, or longer, to get a complete count. Stay informed, reject misinformation, and let’s ensure every vote is counted. Patience helps ensure every vote is included.

We’ve been hearing from many community members who are experiencing fear, anxiety, and even panic in anticipation of the election results, including some who are having trouble living with family members or around neighbors with whom they disagree politically.

No matter the outcome , Equality Virginia will always fight for our families, our freedoms, and a brighter future for our LGBTQ+ community.

No matter the outcome, Equality Virginia will always demand accountability and transparency for our community from our political leaders.

No matter the outcome, Equality Virginia will always remain in solidarity.

Nothing, not even an election outcome, will stop us from caring for you and our community.

United and unwavering in our collective strength,

Narissa Rahaman (she/her)
