Census Bureau and University of Puerto Rico to Host First Collaborative Symposium
The U.S. Census Bureau and the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) are set to co-host the first Collaborative Academic Symposium “Puerto Rico en Datos” (Translation: Puerto Rico in Data) in Carolina, Puerto Rico, on Friday, November 15 starting at 8 a.m. AST.
The event is a joint effort as part of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the Census Bureau and UPR signed last year by Census Bureau Director Robert Santos and UPR President Dr. Luis Ferrao.
The symposium will focus on such topics as the economy, demographics, health, housing, geography and availability of data on Puerto Rico.
This symposium aims to:
- Identify challenges in accessing data.
- Understand how data are used and what the implications of using the data are.
- Explore the data needs from the perspective of local government and academia.
- Educate on how data have helped make informed decisions.
- Educate on data products available to the public.
- Provide a forum for networking and collaboration.
