Dear John,
TODAY is the last day of the election, and it’s a beautiful day to vote! If you’ve already voted, thank you! Please remind everyone you know to do the same. Let’s break the turnout record in San Diego County! For Election Day voters, here’s what you need to know:
DROP IT. If you have a ballot, complete it by filling in the circles to decide on candidates and measures, seal it in the return envelope that came with your ballot, sign and date the back of the envelope, and take it to any drop box [[link removed]] before 8 pm. You can also mail it, just make sure it’s postmarked today, Election Day!
VOTE IN PERSON. If you don’t have a ballot or would rather vote in person, you can vote at ANY Vote Center. Seriously, any one. If you’re not registered to vote yet, no worries, you can do that, too, and vote at the same time. Find the Vote Center [[link removed]] nearest you and vote before 8 pm.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. Under California law, you have these ten rights. Learn more here [[link removed]] .
1. If you are not registered to vote , you have the right to register today as long as you are a U.S. citizen, at least 18, and not currently serving a prison term for a felony conviction.
2. If your name is not on the list at the Vote Center, you have the right to ask for a provisional ballot. Your vote will be counted if election officials determine you are eligible.
3. If the polls close while you are still in line , you have the right to vote as long as you are in line at any Vote Center by 8 pm.
4. You have the right to cast a secret ballot without anyone bothering you or telling you how to vote. That includes your nosy husband or curious neighbors.
5. If you make a mistake , you have the right to ask for a new ballot at a Vote Center. Just exchange the ballot you already have for a fresh one.
6. If you want help , you have the right to get help from anyone you choose as long as they are not your employer or union representative.
7. You have the right to drop your completed vote-by-mail ballot at any polling location.
8. If you speak another language , you have the right to ask for election materials in the major language spoken here, like Spanish, Filipino, Vietnamese, Chinese.
9. You have the right to ask questions to election officials about election procedures. If they don’t have the answer, they can refer you to someone else. Just don’t be disruptive.
10. If you see any illegal or fraudulent activity , you have the right to report it to the San Diego County Registrar of Voters at (858) 565-5800 or the California Secretary of State [[link removed]] .
That’s it! This is a big day. Let’s vote for each other to create a California where all of us can thrive in dignity, justice, and peace!
