According to an analysis from the Kaiser Family Foundation, 5.7 million Americans could lose their health care and become uninsured as a result of this pandemic , due to factors like living in a state that did not expand Medicaid.
This forecast is devastating for hardworking American families getting hit hard by COVID-19, including thousands of people in Mississippi. After all, Mississippi is one of the few states where Medicaid still hasn’t been expanded — despite ranking 50th in the nation for overall health care, and ranking highest for our numbers of uninsured and underinsured.
At every turn, Mississippi's GOP leaders have blocked Medicaid expansion and attacked the Affordable Care Act. This includes Mike Espy’s far-right opponent. Cindy Hyde-Smith doesn’t just vote against affordable health care in the Senate, but openly talks about her plans to “end” the Affordable Care Act as we know it.
With 5.7 million Americans at risk of becoming uninsured during this pandemic, it’s never been more urgent to elect senators like Mike Espy who understand that health care shouldn’t just be a privilege for people who can afford it.
