Friend,
It's been clear for weeks now that COVID-19 is no “great equalizer." Not everyone has the ability to work from home or access to paid sick leave -- let alone healthcare to fall back on when they do get sick. This pandemic is amplifying systemic racial divides and killing a disproportionate share of people of color across the United States, and especially in New York City.
Communities of color already have limited access to high-quality care -- for many, this crisis could eliminate access to care entirely. This virus has become an unfortunate example of the health disparities that result from income inequality and racial inequality in our nation.
We can no longer ignore the deficiencies, inequities, and the flaws that COVID-19 has brought to light. We must demand better. It's clear the system is not working -- we need Medicare for All.
Best,
Nydia
