Hi John,
Last week, I was lucky to be able to join Mitzi Jonelle Tan on her UK speaker tour. Global Justice Now, the National Education Union and other regional partners hosted Mitzi for a tour that took us around the UK, urging communities nationwide to get involved in the campaign for a Fossil Fuel Treaty.
Mitzi is a truly inspiring speaker, as I’m sure those who came to any of the events will agree. All of the meetings were really full and engaged discussions, filled with insightful observations and challenging questions for us all to tackle as we continue in our shared struggle for climate justice.
For those who couldn’t make it in person, we recorded our London event. It’s worth tuning in so you can hear Mitzi’s speech, as well as informative and inspiring contributions from Irene Vélez-Torres, the Colombian Consul General in London, and Rachael Maskell MP.

We already knew we needed a Fossil Fuel Treaty to take on the fossil fuel industry, but Mitzi reminded us of how urgent this is for the global south.
She joined us at a demo outside Shell’s headquarters in London last week and spoke about the increased typhoons and coastal erosion threatening communities in the Philippines. She said:
“Shell has chosen profits time and time again. Most of our people in the Philippines are reliant on the ocean. And Shell has made the ocean our enemy.”
If, like me, you’re angry and sick of seeing the fossil fuel industry profit while communities in countries like the Philippines literally sink into the sea, then please get involved with Global Justice Now’s campaign for a Fossil Fuel Treaty.
You can start by ordering a campaign pack to learn about what you can do to push this vital demand forward:

Finally, if you’re feeling energised after hearing Mitzi speak and want to get out on the streets to demand climate justice, then your next chance is the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice on Saturday 16 November around the UK.
We’ll be sending out more information on this soon, but you can find out more here, too:

Thank you for joining Mitzi, Global Justice Now and many others in our fight for an end to the climate crisis and the injustice that fuels it.
Thank you,
