Healthcare professionals need to sign this letter today

Dear supporter,

In a little over three weeks, MPs will vote on a Bill to legalise assisted suicide in England and Wales. It is truly a matter of life and death.

Doctors, nurses and other practitioners have a hugely significant voice in this debate. Thankfully, a great many of them are resolutely against assisted suicide.

Our Duty of Care (ODOC) is a group of healthcare professionals who oppose changing the law and instead advocate for “excellent palliative care”. They are sending a letter to the Prime Minister, urging him to keep the current law.

Any medical professional, including those who have retired, can add their signature to the letter via the Our Duty of Care website ([link removed]) .

The letter points out that introducing assisted suicide would be an enormous shift “from preserving life to taking life”. It also argues that it is “impossible” to prevent assisted suicide laws being expanded once introduced, and that “any change would threaten society’s ability to safeguard vulnerable patients from abuse”.
