GGJ is looking for a Communications Director to join our team!! Applications Due: Monday, June 8,
2020. Flexible Location. During COVID-19 travel restrictions, all of our programming and organizing work is happening remotely. Once travel restrictions are lifted, travel will be required for this position on average 5-10 days per month in the US, and 15 days per year internationally. Compensation: $70,000-$73,000, commensurate with experience. Full-time with benefits beginning after 3 month introductory period, including health, dental and vision coverage and generous vacation.
Position Summary: This position will lead Communications Strategy
for the alliance, supervise & mentor the communications team, elevate the visibility of alliance leadership and members, support the leadership of member groups playing communications roles in programs, and coordinate with our allies. This position will report to the GGJ Deputy Director. Job Responsibilities: Lead GGJ narrative strategy and communications plans (40%) Lead GGJ external communications and coordinate consistent public profile (40%) Ensure Robust Internal Communications
Infrastructure (10%) Participate in GGJ team (10%) Required Qualifications and Experience - At least 7 years of experience with communications for US-based grassroots social justice organizations and Black & Brown led organizations. - Strong track record of managing a comprehensive strategic communications plan, including media relations, digital advocacy, and narrative strategy. - Knowledge of national landscape of climate/environmental justice, familiarity and political
alignment with some of the GGJ frameworks of Global Well-being, Just Transition, Grassroots Feminism, Grassroots Internationalism. - Ability to work independently while maintaining close communication with remote team. - Friendly, outgoing, personable approach to communication. - Ability to write and speak English language. - Experience in multi-racial, multi-generational, multi-cultural settings.
- Knowledge of common computer applications: MS Office, Google docs, Dropbox, and Zoom video tele-conferencing systems.
- Familiarity with CRM
systems and Database management (Powerbase). Experience using social media & web development tools: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Wordpress. - Ability to work flexible hours (evenings and weekends), including communicating with allies in other parts of the world in different time zones.
- Willingness to travel (when permissible according to COVID-19 travel restrictions): average 5-10 days per month in the US, and 15 days per year internationally.
- Driver’s license and liability insurance. Preferred
Experience - Ability to write and read additional language(s) besides English, preferably Spanish.
