Friends, family, longtime supporters, and newer members of Team Kaine:
Happy Election Day!! I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you’ve done for my re-election campaign this year — and for many of you, everything you’ve done for so many campaigns over the years.
I’ll never forget my very first race, for Richmond City Council back in 1994. I won by just 97 votes — a reminder that every single vote matters that has stayed with me my entire career. Whether we’re talking about a city council district, the Commonwealth, or the whole country, that holds true. Your vote is your voice – your sacred right as an American to have a say in this nation’s future — and if you haven’t yet, I hope you go use it today!
Polls are open in Virginia and many other states, so NOW is the time to go speak up and speak out. For your beliefs, for your values, for your loved ones, and for the America you want to see.
You can find poll locations and hours and any other voting details you need at IWillVote.com.
I’m optimistic right now.
You’ve probably heard me say a phrase that my mom taught me: If you want to be right, be a pessimist; if you want to DO right, be an optimist.
Well I’m a lifelong optimist, and today, I believe I’ll have the opportunity to both do right and be right.
Here’s why:
I know Virginians. I love Virginians. And I know and love Americans. As a Commonwealth and a nation, we are not a tear-down, tear-apart people. We are a come-together, lift-up people.
Today, we have the chance to prove that to ourselves and to the rest of the world.
If you’re looking for one last way to make an impact, you can still volunteer. Reach out to your friends and family, remind them to go vote, and give optimism a try — I think you’ll like it.
Talk soon,
Tim Kaine
