John, running for office is a lot like jumping out of a plane and not really knowing if there’s a parachute in your backpack.

It’s about trust. It’s about being vulnerable. It’s about baring your soul to ten million people and hoping they agree with your vision for a better tomorrow, or that, failing that, you can convince them they agree before you hit the ground.

Twenty months ago, I declared that I was running for State Treasurer. I jumped out of the plane. Today’s the day I reach the ground. At 7:30 PM tonight, when the polls close, I hope we’ll find out that I convinced the voters to give me a parachute.

In the meantime, I’ll repeat my plea to you from yesterday morning: if you haven’t voted, please go vote. If you have questions about voting, please head to NCSBE.gov, or you can reply to this email and I’ll do my best to answer them. And if you’ve got time to agonize, you’ve got time to organize. There are still opportunities to knock doors, make phone calls, and meet voters at the polls—you can head to mobilize.us to learn more.

We will win this race if we spend today doing all that we can to get our voters out to the polls. Don’t sit idle. See you on the other side.
