Dear John:
Twenty-two years ago today, C-Fam opened our doors for the first time, in a small windowless office on UN Plaza right across from the UN.
We were founded by a visionary Canadian named Theresa Bell who was then the Executive Director of Human Life International Canada.
We were founded at the request of the Papal Nuncio to the United Nations, then Archbishop now Cardinal Renato Martino who announced that pro-life laymen must open an office at the UN in order to defend unborn babies and the family every day.
In these 22 years C-Fam has played a central role in blocking a global right to abortion, blocking a redefinition of the family and much else.
We fought back against efforts to kick the Vatican out of the General Assembly.
We have published 22 years of uninterrupted Friday Faxes, the only weekly source of pro-life and pro-family news coming out of the UN.
We have gathered a global force of pro-lifers willing to work in concert to stop the radical advance.
Please know we do not try to take sole credit for anything we have had a hand in accomplishing. First and foremost, we give credit to God and also to our UN pro-life friends and allies in government and out.
As a measure of our success, however, in recent weeks, both the Guardian of London and Reuters news service have said we are at the center of influence at the UN. We appreciate that. Heck, even the minions of George Soros have come after us! We like that.
Perhaps the hardest job I have faced these 22 years though, is keeping the doors open. Big foundations do not give much to pro-life groups. We certainly to not get anything from government and nothing from the Church. We get by on the widow’s mite.
Boy oh boy has it been expensive these 22 years. I lie awake at night worrying about covering payroll and much else.
I hate like the dickens to come to you week after week, year after year, but that is how we get by, through your prayers and through your financial generosity.
Would you donate $5 for every year we have been defending the babies? That would be $110? How about $2 for every year? That’s $44?
