One of the hardest parts aspects of Christian living is balancing the urgency and seriousness of active faithfulness – what God calls us to do – with the confidence and security of biblical rest and submission.

The Christian walk leads to action. Yet, this action does not look desperate, anxious, or frantic. No matter how urgent or high the stakes, the Christian trusts the Living King.

This is hard to live out.

Today is Election Day. The results will affect our personal lives – our ability to afford groceries, buy a house, or save for the future. They will affect the future of the country we care about – crime around us, our national budget and debt, and our standing in the world. And, it will affect issues that matter dearly to Christian conservatives – the preservation of human life, the reality and celebration of God’s Design in human biology and sexuality, and the protection of religious freedom.

If you have not yet voted, there is no excuse to refrain from exercising your voice – your Christian influence – for good public policy that will bless you, your family, and your neighbor. GO VOTE!

Many of you have already voted. Some have even honored God by actively engaging in the process, talking to your neighbors, sharing truth about issues. Others have dishonored God by how they’ve engaged in the process – by letting the emotion of anger dominate our discourse, ruining friendships, and failing to be a witness.

Yet, your opportunity to be a witness is not yet done. Even if you have already voted, I’m calling on you to encourage your friends and church members to do so, and I’m calling on you to spend significant time today in prayer.

If your “side” wins, I’m calling on you to be gracious, unifying, give praise where it’s due (God), and to celebrate the good the victory will bring to your neighbor rather than the misery the defeat will bring to your deemed adversaries.

If your “side” loses, I’m calling on you to be steadfast – not give up – with continued faithful action, humble, resolved to make a difference, eager to find common ground, vigilant in pushing back against evil and lies, and, yes, to give praise where it’s due (God) for His will being done.

In either case, I’m calling on you to pray for those that God appoints to office – that He will reach them with salvation, that their desire will be to glorify Him, that He will keep them and their family safe, for wisdom and clarity, for success in their leadership, and for good to be done.

In victory, praise Him. In defeat, praise Him. In all things, “Thy will be done.”

No matter what happens with these results, I know that God is not done with His Church, the State of Georgia, or the United States of America.

I also know that – no matter who is in the White House – God is on the throne and all earthly authority is granted only because He wills it to be.

Again, this biblical peace and submission does not diminish the seriousness of the cause. “Thy will be done” is not a nonchalant mentality toward abortion, gender ideology, the economy, crime, Israel and foreign policy, etc. It is, instead, a commitment to faithful action accompanied by a sincere faith in a God who has promised to do everything according to His good and perfect plan.

Today, go vote – if you have not already done so.

Pray.

Engage.

Encourage.

But, also, Trust.

Your Christian witness in the public square is not done the moment you cast your vote. It has only begun. May the Church be radiant in our response.

Thy will be done!
