Stop Mis- And Disinformation Before Election Day
================================================

Dear John,

This election season, our Latino community is facing targeted efforts of false
and misleading information meant to discourage us from voting. Misinformation and
disinformation schemes aim to deceive, dissuade, and ultimately suppress our
voices. This harmful content is widespread on social media, especially on
Spanish-language platforms, and can appear on websites, WhatsApp groups, and even
in robocalls. New technologies like AI are also being used to amplify this
misinformation.

As Election Day approaches on Tuesday, November 5th, let’s stay vigilant and
informed. We are working alongside our partners—the Lawyers' Committee for Civil
Rights Under Law [ [link removed] ] , the National Association
of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) [ [link removed] ] , and
Common Cause—to provide you with Election Protection resources every step of the
way. If you have questions or concerns about voting, call or text the Election
Protection Hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE or visit 866ourvote.org [ [link removed] ] .
For resources in Spanish, you can reach out to 888-VE-Y-VOTA (888-839-8682),
where bilingual volunteers are ready to assist.

Here’s how you can spot and stop the spread of false voting information:

1. Consider the Source: Verify that information comes from trusted, nonpartisan
organizations and credible sources, and make sure it’s up-to-date.

2. Call 866-OUR-VOTE: Connect with trained attorney volunteers who can answer
questions and provide accurate information.

3. Recursos en Español: Contact 888-VE-Y-VOTA for Spanish-language assistance
from bilingual attorneys year-round. You can also text “GOVOTE” to 97779 for
updates in English or “VEYVOTA” to 97779 for Spanish information.

4. Spread the Word: Share the Election Protection Hotline with your community
to help protect the integrity of our elections.

5. Document Your Concerns: If you encounter misinformation or voting issues,
document them at lulac.org/gotv/mi-gente/election-protection/ [ [link removed] ] .
Your complaints will go directly to a team of attorneys dedicated to
addressing concerns immediately.

Every vote matters, and every Latino voice is essential in our shared struggle
for a brighter future. Let’s stand united, empowering our friends and neighbors
with reliable voting information. Our fight for the right to vote is unwavering,
and together, we’ll make our voices heard!

In Solidarity,

Juan Proaño,
LULAC CEO
