Dear John,

As we push to get out the vote in these final hours of the election, I find myself reflecting on what an incredible journey this has been so far.

Nearly 300 days ago, I started my campaign for Supervisor because of a profound belief that despite the division and challenges our district faces, despite the politicians who place political ideology over people, there is a path forward.

A path rooted in our values, unity, and results for residents — a path towards a safe and vibrant District 5 for all.

District 5 is a unique gem in an unparalleled city — the iconic Painted Ladies, the oldest Japantown in the nation, the Fillmore’s jazz culture, the Tenderloin’s food scene, the eccentricity of Haight and Ashbury — and my vision is that we come together to uplift our communities and return our district to a beacon of hope.

Simply put: we deserve better.

And I know you agree. With your support, we’ve started a movement with tireless momentum.

Hundreds of volunteers have come together because of our shared belief in a new and better tomorrow.

With support from folks from technology and labor, multi-generational natives and immigrants, communities of color and LGBTQIA+, families and seniors — this has been a campaign for all.

This campaign has built a diverse and broad coalition of support ranging from the SF Chronicle, Senator Scott Wiener, BART Director Lateefah Simon, Mayors of both San Francisco and San Jose, Planned Parenthood, the Democratic Party, the Building Trades, Nor Cal Carpenters Union, and countless community members.

And we did it by listening to people.

I sat down with residents and community groups across our district who have felt the problems of our city to be intractable, who felt ignored. And we came together to develop pragmatic solutions.

Together, we put forth evidence-based approaches to ensure a future in which our neighbors are housed, our small businesses are thriving, and our streets are safe and clean — a future we can all be proud of.

It’s clear that it’s time to turn the page in District 5 and come together as one.

This is not only how we will win, but how we will govern.

Tomorrow, we would love to have you help us in our final push to get out the vote and to join our Election Night Watch Party

I am proud and truly grateful to have run this campaign with your support.

Let's go win this!

Thank you,

Bilal Mahmood
