Friend,

I have some big news for you—but first, I want to say thank you. Robin and I will be forever grateful for the time, energy, and dedication you have given to this campaign.

This morning, I announced that I am no longer running for President of the United States in 2020. But even though this campaign didn’t have the conclusion we were hoping for, every moment of it has been worthwhile.

We’ve been on an incredible journey over the past six months. I’ve visited numerous states (and biked across Iowa), sampled more than a few local brews, spoken to thousands of voters, stood tall on the national debate stage—and I couldn’t have done it without each and every person on this team.

I wish I could explain my decision and the path forward to each of you, face to face, so I made this video to tell you directly.

Farewell video

My head is held high. I know better than anyone that the end of one chapter is just the start of another. When I lost my job as a geologist, I wasn’t sure what the future would hold for me. But that loss turned into the chance of a lifetime—it took losing that job for me to start my own brewery, and to eventually make the leap from small business owner to public servant.

That’s why I know everyone will keep up the good fight. In just a few months, we’ve laid out a path toward a more equitable economy that doesn’t lead us to extremes. I called on my personal experience leading Colorado through tragedy to build an effective nationwide plan for gun violence prevention. And we made the case that health care is a right, not a privilege, and should be treated as such.

When I look back at what we’ve accomplished on this campaign, I feel proud to have had you by my side every step of the way. And when I do make my next move, you’ll be the first to know.

See you a little ways down the road…

Giddy up,
John
