Hi there, John!
This is the Critical Resistance Development Team (Shirley, Nick, and Abby) reaching out to send strength and solidarity this week and always. We are extremely grateful, especially during these trying times, to see all the ways that our community members show up to sustain our organizing towards the abolition of the prison industrial complex (PIC). Dedicated folks like you keep us accountable to our community through vocal support of our campaign work and principled engagement with our communications. Thank you so much.
In the current fight for PIC abolition, we are witnessing the creep toward fascism, heightened repression of liberatory organizing, ongoing imperialism, increasing criminalization, and more. We aim to wield PIC abolition as an effective counter to this oppression, and we aim to grow our efforts strategically to meet this moment. However, we need your help to be able to grow and deepen our work! Can we count on you to help us rise to the occasion and continue our fight for a future without cages and cops? As the struggle continues, we hope you will consider becoming a monthly sustainer of Critical Resistance at the $15.00 per month level or higher. Every penny counts, and we are deeply grateful for anything that you are able to commit to this fight.
Our incredibly monthly sustainers have told us that they support Critical Resistance because I want to do whatever I can to get us closer to a world where people have what they need and we end the systems that cause such gigantic harm, because its vital to learn more about the industrial prison complex from its many sides and to be able to work in solidarity, and Because building organization is the only way to freedom.
These dedicated folks make it truly possible for our chapters across the country to engage in necessary work to close California prisons and resist immigrant detention in New York, strengthen political relationships with movement partners and imprisoned people, create robust organizing tools, and more. For more information on our abolitionist movement-building work, read our 2024 summer-fall updates HERE or check out our most recent chapter communications detailing the California prison closure campaign, organizing against immigrant detention in New York, and recent anti-policing events in Portland.
Will you become a monthly sustainer today and continue CR's ability to engage strongly in long-haul abolitionist movement-building? Reliable resourcing such as monthly donations helps grassroots organizations like ours stay the course as the political winds shift, reinforces the community value of our work, and allows us to keep bringing an abolitionist common sense to our interwoven freedom fights.
Are you finding yourself with questions about CRs work to abolish the PIC or about our monthly sustainer program? Schedule a time to talk to the development team and get answers! We would love to connect with you through a virtual chat, or even an in-person one if youre in the Bay! You can always share more about how you'd like to engage with us, and we hope youll invite your abolitionist (or abolition-curious!) friends and loved ones to check out our radical anti-PIC organizing. Again, thank you so much for your dedicated support of Critical Resistance. We look forward to continuing to build community with you as the movement marches onward. Thank you!
In solidarity,
Shirley Leslie, Nick DeRenzi, and Abby Bordin
