Hello there,

If there were any doubt about the character of the man in the White House, now we have even more proof.

It’s the look on CBS White House correspondent Weijia Jiang’s face after she asked Trump why he continues to make the pandemic response seem like a global competition. Trump’s response? “Maybe that’s a question you should ask China.”

Weijia’s shock and disgust is ours, too. And Trump’s toxic behavior has consequences far beyond the press briefing -- The Stop AAPI Hate reporting center says there were 1,100 instances of racial discrimination just in the last two weeks of March alone. Racist attacks, both verbal and physical -- like the March 14 stabbing of a Hmong American family in Texas and an April 5 acid attack on a Chinese American woman in Brooklyn -- are on the rise across the country.

Trump’s racist repetition of “Chinese virus” has encouraged these incidents, and his failure to effectively address this pandemic hurts people of color everywhere -- with African American and Latino communities hit hardest by the outbreak.

Some Americans think racism should be declared a public health issue of its own in light of the recent attacks on people of color, while others don’t see any harm in Trump’s rhetoric. We need to know where you stand, so please tell us now:

Is Donald Trump a racist?
