Dear John,
Meet Thelma, the “Tender Heart” of our flock. She may be snuggly and sweet, but Thelma is also a survivor—who found herself in need of rescue twice.
Shortly after a kindhearted rescuer saved Thelma from slaughter, the approaching flames and smoke of wildfires threatened her adoptive home. Thankfully, this brave bird would rise as a phoenix to start a new life at Farm Sanctuary.
Despite her harrowing past, Thelma is fully in the present, living life to the fullest and snuggling up to her friends at every bedtime. Kind and sensitive, Thelma is always there for her flock and has grown especially close with her best friends Serena turkey and Eric rooster.
Each year, 46 million turkeys are killed for the Thanksgiving season in the United States—but Thelma is among the fortunate few who experience sanctuary, thanks to the support of caring people like you. Now free to enjoy her days, Thelma loves to listen to music, play with treat balls, and chat with her neighbors across the fence, the Cornish hens.
