Check your mailbox (yes, that box you get physical mail in 😀) You have a letter from Tax Amazon for Green New Homes! [Want us to pick up your filled out petition? [You didn’t get the petition to tax Amazon?  Friends,  As you know, this past week, under pressure from the Democratic Party establishment, big business, and the corporate media— - all of whom are fighting a pitched battle to defeat our tax on the top 2% of Seattle businesses— - Councilmembers González and Mosqueda postponed all hearings and votes on the Seattle City Council on taxing Amazon (and 799 of the biggest companies in Seattle that would be taxed) to fund green, social housing, Green New Homes.  While this is a setback for our movement, it’s something we were prepared for. It means it’s time to go all-out to gather signatures to get this legislation on the November ballot and bring the issue directly to the people to decide: Will post-covid recovery be used to further enrich these mega-corporations? Or can we build a strong enough movement to put people to work and rebuild society through Green New Homes for a Green New Deal.  It’s clear we need to double down and build the biggest possible movement—- to act as a counterweight to the power of the 1% and to activate working people and youth in Seattle, 75% of whom said they supported taxing big business to pay for social services.   This week all Seattle DSA members will receive the official petition by snail mail. Given that shelter-in-place makes it impossible for us to collect signatures outside of grocery stores as we normally would, here’s what we need:
 If you didn’t receive your petition in the mail let us know and we’ll make sure you get one.  Politicians like to stay that we are all in this together, but reality is quite different. While working people are thrown into unemployment and face hunger, sickness, and an uncertain future, billionaires are reaping massive profits. In the first month of the pandemic/lockdown, billionaires added nearly $300 billion to their already bloated coffers. Jeff Bezos, on track to be the first trillionaire by 2026, raked in an incredible $15 billion in less than a month.  The campaign to Tax Amazon for Green New Homes is a continuation of the political revolution against the billionaire class. The same forces that opposed Bernie are prepared to do whatever it takes to defeat our movement. Like Bernie we are a grassroots movement, funded by grassroots donations.  Can you make a donation of $15, $27, $50 or $100 to help mail out more petitions? With the lockdown in place and the importance of observing social distancing guidelines, we will need to rely on other means to gather signatures and build our movement, like sending out more paper petitions by snail mail.  And we need you!
