Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting a school in southern Vermont and spending time with middle school students. It was a great day at school: I answered their questions, we ate lunch together, and we talked about the value of building community and making connections with people who are different to us.
Many of you may know this, but I was actually a middle school history and social studies teacher myself! I think it’s so important to encourage and inspire Vermont’s young students, and my heart was so full hearing them share their thoughts, questions, and dreams.
It’s why I’ve spent the past few months campaigning hard for Democrats up and down the ballot and across the nation: so that the next generation is safe being who they are in the classroom, and so they have every door wide open for them. That includes a greener future, more educational and economic opportunities, and a world in which all LGBTQ+ children and adults are safe and empowered.
Tomorrow, we’ll elect the nation’s first female President, the first Black woman president, and the first Asian president. All of your efforts – from donating to volunteering and encouraging your loved ones to vote – will have made it possible. And together, we will keep fighting this good fight for future generations to come!
