Gina Ortiz Jones is running to represent Texas’s 23rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.  A first-generation American, Gina has dedicated her career to fighting for working families and an economy that works for everyone. Her unparalleled experience, Texas values, and perspective as a military veteran and civil servant will make her an excellent Congresswoman.

 

Raised by a single mother, who came to the United States because she believed in the promise of a better future and limitless opportunities. Their road wasn’t always easy and Gina knows first-hand what it is like to live in subsidized housing and to rely on reduced-priced lunches as a kid. She learned early that it takes both hard work and the opportunity to get ahead. After graduating from Boston University on a four-year R.O.T.C. scholarship, she was commissioned as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force, and served in Iraq under the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. Gina returned home to San Antonio following her deployment to help care for her mother who was fighting cancer. Over the past 14 years, Gina has built a career in national security, with a particular focus on defense intelligence and economic security.  As an Iraq War veteran and civil servant, it’s not in Gina’s blood to sit around as our national security and the opportunities that she has spent her career protecting are threatened, especially while her own community was being represented by someone who is a rubber stamp for the Trump administration. She knows that we need a leader standing up for the issues that can make a real impact on people’s lives.
