SACRAMENTO—“Today’s report released by E2, where it announced that more than 600,000 U.S. clean energy workers nationwide have lost their jobs, is important for several reasons. First, it underscores the need for California to accelerate its efforts to get people back to work regardless of the sector in which they are employed. At the same time, the report reaffirms that clean energy jobs in California account for less than 5% of the total jobs in our state, prior to the crisis, and constitutes about 3% of the total number of Californians that are unemployed.

There is no doubt that these job losses need to be addressed, but the scale clearly demonstrates they cannot be the driver of California’s economic recovery as previously reported by Governor Newsom’s Task Force Co-Chair, Tom Steyer. The total number of jobs created by the so-called 'green economy' stubbornly have remained at about 500,000 for the past 10 years despite significant investments. A broader-based action plan is needed to accelerate jobs growth across ALL sectors and regions.”
