For a few eye-catching documentary episodes, America breathlessly watched as the near-unbelievable cast of Tiger King exploited big cats in captivity.

But it's not just television; it's all-too-real and disgustingly cruel. Across the country, thousands of lions, tigers, cheetahs, bobcats, cougars, leopards, and other big cats are caged in private zoos, kept as pets, bred for profit, displayed for novelty, or sold for "wildlife parts."

Private ownership of big cats is dangerous, cruel, and completely unnecessary.

The challenge: right now, our ineffective hodgepodge of state-by-state laws doesn't protect anyone - human or feline. Which is how we see this practice still going on, and why, as co-chair of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus (CAPC), I'm leading the national effort to fix this problem.

It's time for my colleagues in Congress to join me and outlaw private ownership of big cats. Sign the petition.
