Dear Ward 8 Residents,
Mayor Muriel Bowser has extended the Stay-At-Home Order through June 8, 2020, as a measure to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus in our city. During this time, I encourage residents to get involved and participate in the upcoming budget process for our city. Due to the economic impact from COVID-19, the District of Columbia will see budget cuts up to $731 million in next year's budget.
Each government agency presents its budget at a Public Budget Hearing where all residents can express their opinions and request funds for their needs. As the chairman of the Committee on Recreation & Youth Affairs, I am responsible for oversight of the agencies that manage parks, recreation centers, and youth affairs.
I have included a hearing notice with details of how to provide feedback during the virtual hearings. Individuals, parents, and youth can offer their opinion of how they want the money to be used for recreation and youth needs and what they want to protect from looming budget cuts. I encourage residents to take advantage of our phone-in-testimony. Residents may call and leave a 3-minute voicemail testimony by calling: (202) 350‐1639; or send it in writing via email to [email protected]. Don't just stand there, do something!
Regards,
Trayon White, Sr.
Councilmember, Ward 8
