Low-income New Yorkers can apply for heating and cooling assistance under the Home Energy Assistance Program, or HEAP. The 2024-2025 Regular HEAP benefit opened November 1, 2024.Who is eligible to receive HEAP? You may be eligible if:You and the members of your household are U.S. citizens, U.S. non-citizen nationals or qualified non-citizens; andYou provide a valid Social Security number for each household member; andYou receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Temporary Assistance or Supplemental Security Income; orYour monthly household income is at or below the HEAP income guidelines.You may be eligible for HEAP, even if you:Own your homePay for heat as part of your rentHave money in the bank, stocks, bonds or other resourcesLearn more about HEAP current monthly income limits. Featured Funding OpportunitiesBecome a Community Science Partner with the Center for Collaborative Heat MonitoringLast week, the Center for Collaborative Heat Monitoring opened applications for communities across the U.S. to monitor and evaluate factors influencing local heat risk, as part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda. Funded through the Inflation Reduction Act, selected communities will receive $10,000 and technical support to collect heat distribution data through community-led campaigns. The application window for this opportunity is open now and closes on January 17, 2025, at 11:59 PM ET. In support of President Biden’s Justice40 Initiative, the center will prioritize applications from communities that have experienced historical patterns of discrimination, underinvestment and disenfranchisement and have limited resources to conduct heat monitoring on their own. Rural communities, tribal nations, U.S. territories and communities that have not previously undergone heat mapping are especially encouraged to apply.Communities that submit an optional Expression of Interest by November 15, 2024 will have the opportunity to be matched with a “mentor” community to share their experiences with participatory science and provide additional guidance. The center will also host upcoming webinars and Q&A sessions to answer questions from prospective applicants. National Endowment for the Humanities: Sustaining Cultural Heritage CollectionsThis program helps cultural institutions meet the complex challenge of preserving large and diverse holdings of humanities materials for future generations by supporting environmentally sustainable preventive care measures that mitigate deterioration, prolong the useful life of collections, reduce energy consumption, and strengthen institutions’ ability to anticipate and respond to disasters.Register for Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections Webinar here. It will be held on November 8th at 2PM Eastern.Deadline for Optional Draft: December 5, 2024, 11:59 p.m. Eastern TimeApplication Deadline: January 10, 2025, 11:59 p.m. Eastern TimeU.S. Department of Energy Building Upgrades Inspiring Local Transformation (BUILT Nonprofits)The BUILT Nonprofits funding opportunity will support nonprofit building improvement projects that reduce energy use, lower carbon emissions, and generate short and long-term energy cost saving so that operational dollars can be redirected toward mission-critical work. Eligible nonprofit participants are 501(c)(3) organizations who own and operate their own buildings. BUILT Nonprofits will provide awards of up to $100k each. The program requires a 20% cost-share.This grant funds equipment and installation for energy efficiency improvements such as but not limited to: HVAC equipment, water heater equipment, weatherization materials, and efficient lighting sources. Submission Deadline - November 12, 2024 by 11:59 PM ET Weatherization Assistance ProgramThe NYS Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is the largest residential energy conservation program in the country. NYS WAP assists income-eligible homeowners and some renters in our state by reducing heating and cooling costs through energy-conservation measures, while also addressing health and safety issues in their homes.Households with incomes at or below 60% of state median income are eligible for assistance. If a household contains a member who receives Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) benefits or certain other forms of public assistance, the household is automatically eligible for NYS WAP services. Applications are accepted from renters, homeowners, and rental property owners. Potential program participants apply by contacting the WAP provider that serves their area.Find Your Weatherization Provider Here!Services include but are not limited to:sealing of cracks and holes to reduce heat loss;insulation of attics and walls;heating system repairs or replacement;providing efficient lighting and refrigeration;window and/or outside door repair or replacement;minor repairs which are needed to ensure maximum efficiency of the weatherization services performed; andmitigation of energy-related health and safety issues.
