Low-income New Yorkers can apply for heating and cooling assistance under the Home Energy Assistance Program, or HEAP. The 2024-2025 Regular HEAP benefit opened November 1, 2024.Who is eligible to receive HEAP? Featured Funding OpportunitiesBecome a Community Science Partner with the Center for Collaborative Heat MonitoringLast week, the Center for Collaborative Heat Monitoring opened applications for communities across the U.S. to monitor and evaluate factors influencing local heat risk, as part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda. Funded through the Inflation Reduction Act, selected communities will receive $10,000 and technical support to collect heat distribution data through community-led campaigns. The application window for this opportunity is open now and closes on January 17, 2025, at 11:59 PM ET. In support of President Biden’s Justice40 Initiative, the center will prioritize applications from communities that have experienced historical patterns of discrimination, underinvestment and disenfranchisement and have limited resources to conduct heat monitoring on their own. Rural communities, tribal nations, U.S. territories and communities that have not previously undergone heat mapping are especially encouraged to apply.Communities that submit an optional Expression of Interest by November 15, 2024 will have the opportunity to be matched with a “mentor” community to share their experiences with participatory science and provide additional guidance. The center will also host upcoming webinars and Q&A sessions to answer questions from prospective applicants. National Endowment for the Humanities: Sustaining Cultural Heritage CollectionsThis program helps cultural institutions meet the complex challenge of preserving large and diverse holdings of humanities materials for future generations by supporting environmentally sustainable preventive care measures that mitigate deterioration, prolong the useful life of collections, reduce energy consumption, and strengthen institutions’ ability to anticipate and respond to disasters.Register for Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections Webinar here. It will be held on November 8th at 2PM Eastern.Deadline for Optional Draft: December 5, 2024, 11:59 p.m. Eastern TimeApplication Deadline: January 10, 2025, 11:59 p.m. Eastern TimeU.S. Department of Energy Building Upgrades Inspiring Local Transformation (BUILT Nonprofits)The BUILT Nonprofits funding opportunity will support nonprofit building improvement projects that reduce energy use, lower carbon emissions, and generate short and long-term energy cost saving so that operational dollars can be redirected toward mission-critical work. Eligible nonprofit participants are 501(c)(3) organizations who own and operate their own buildings. BUILT Nonprofits will provide awards of up to $100k each. The program requires a 20% cost-share.This grant funds equipment and installation for energy efficiency improvements such as but not limited to: HVAC equipment, water heater equipment, weatherization materials, and efficient lighting sources. Apply for Heating and Cooling Assistance (HEAP)!

Need help paying your energy bill? Low-income New Yorkers can apply for heating and cooling assistance under the Home Energy Assistance Program, or HEAP. The 2024-2025 Regular HEAP benefit opened November 1, 2024.

NYS WAP assists income-eligible homeowners and some renters in our state by reducing heating and cooling costs through energy-conservation measures, while also addressing health and safety issues in their homes.
Households with incomes at or below 60% of state median income are eligible for assistance.
