Dear John,

Summer recess is over! This week, state lawmakers returned to working on hundreds of bills, many of them housing-related. Several of these bills are NPH Priority Bills, and we need your help letting legislators know that we're ready to move critical housing bills forward!

By using our handy Action Center tool, you can quickly and easily voice your support for bills that can make meaningful progress for our affordable housing movement. Here’s the status on some of our top bills:

  • AB 1486: Would strengthen our Surplus Land Act to transform unused public land into a public good, making more public land available for affordable homes and open spaces that benefit our communities across racial and economic lines. This bill has passed out of the Assembly and is now in the Senate Appropriations Committee.

  • AB 1487: Would allow the Bay Area to join together to find Bay Area-specific solutions to our housing affordability needs. New regional funding and programs will strengthen our region with more affordable homes and protections for longtime residents to ensure all Bay Area residents, no matter their color or income, have a safe, stable, affordable place to call home. This bill has passed out of the Assembly and is now in the Senate Appropriations Committee.

  • AB 1482: Would help keep families in their homes by limiting extreme or unreasonable rent increases and preventing arbitrary evictions. This bill has passed out of the Assembly and is now in the Senate Appropriations Committee.

  • SB 330: Would create more affordable housing opportunities for California families and workers by ensuring local governments each maintain consistent rules and regulations. This bill has passed out of the Senate and is now in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

In addition to our Priority Bills, NPH plays a leadership role in the “3Ps” legislative campaign coalition work to move forward the 3-pronged approach to housing solutions of production, preservation, and tenant protections.

Don't forget to check out our Action Center for more on all of the NPH Priority Bills for the 2019 legislative session.
