** LEGISLATIVE SUPPORT FOR WESTERN NC

The devastation in Western NC caused by Hurricane Helene was unimaginable. We acted swiftly by passing a $273M relief package to deliver immediate help to our hardest-hit communities. The first round of aid included $250 million dedicated to matching federal disaster relief funding, $16 million to support school workers, and $5 million for election resources in impacted counties. The bill also provided school calendar flexibility, waived certain DMV fees, and streamlined retirement rules to assist with recovery efforts.
Then we came back to pass an additional $644M in additional Hurricane Helene relief — bringing us to nearly $900M now going toward recovery with:
💧 Clean water infrastructure repairs
🏫 Schools & impacted student aid
💼 Small business support to re-open
👨👩👧 Family service
🏢 Local government assistance
Our priority is to get folks the help they need quickly and effectively. Together, we’re rebuilding a stronger WNC!
