YouR HeAlth Survey Findings Now Available

Power to Decide has released findings from our inaugural Youth Reproductive Health Access (YouR HeAlth) Survey. This survey provides timely national data on young people’s knowledge, attitudes, and experiences with contraception and abortion information and services. The 2024 YouR HeAlth Survey was conducted in Summer 2024 with 1,200 young people aged 15-29 who were assigned female at birth. The YouR HeAlth Survey 2024 Data Report presents select results and is available on our website, along with additional details about the survey.

Findings in the 2024 Data Report underscore the work still to be done to advance young people’s sexual and reproductive well-being. For example, about one-quarter of participants reported that they did not have enough information to decide whether using birth control now is right for them. We are working to provide trusted, resonate, and accurate information and services to address such gaps.

Power to Decide will discuss the survey findings during a webinar on November 19 from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. ET moderated by Rewire News. Register today

Sign-up for Power to Decide’s New Clinician Panel!

Are you a clinician (MD, NP, RN, etc.)? Do you provide sexual and reproductive health care to pregnancy-capable individuals aged 15-29? Are you passionate about shaping the future of sexual and reproductive well-being?

Then this opportunity is for you!

At Power to Decide, we're working to advance sexual and reproductive well-being for all. We envision a world where everyone—no matter who they are or where they live—has control over their bodies and can decide if, when, and under what circumstances to get pregnant and have a child.

To accomplish that, we're building a panel of clinicians like you, who are willing to share your needs and experiences with us, provide feedback on ideas, and even test out prototypes (really simple, low-cost versions) of things we might be building, as your time and capacity allows.

How it works:

Step 1 - Complete this brief, 3-minute form to join Power to Decide's clinician panel.

Step 2 – Keep an eye out for emails about upcoming learning opportunities.  We’ll send them to everyone who completes the form above.

Step 3 – Select and participate in a learning opportunity and receive a Visa gift card for your time and insights!

We review submissions on a rolling basis, so the sooner you fill out the form, the better. We'll have a variety of additional opportunities coming up soon and those who complete the form linked above will be the first to learn about them.

If you have any questions, please email Sarah Axelson, Senior Director, Innovation, Training, and Technical Assistance at [email protected]
We're excited to collaborate with you!

2025 Open Enrollment Has Begun

HeathCare.gov has now opened its enrollment period for 2025 coverage. Open Enrollment runs from November 1 through January 15. That’s only a little more than 10 weeks to either sign up for health insurance or change your plan for another that better fits your needs for the upcoming year.

We know that seems like a short time, but don’t worry. We’ve gathered the resources and reminders to help you get your plan in time.
Federal Update

Since passing a short-term continuing resolution (CR) on September 25, government funding has been extended until December 20, 2024. Currently, Members of Congress are in-district and on October recess until after the November 5 elections. As we wait for Congress to return on November 12, we must continue to urge them to fund programs that support reproductive well-being at increased levels. This includes the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program, Title X family Planning Program, reauthorizing PREP, and no longer funding the harmful Sexual Risk Avoidance Programs.

Please contact your members of Congress and urge them to fully fund the Title X program and the TPP Program.

State Updates

Georgia Supreme Court Reinstates Six Week Abortion Ban

On October 7, the Georgia Supreme Court reinstated the state’s six-week abortion ban, despite a ruling in a lower court on September 30, which determined that the ban was unconstitutional. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney struck down the abortion ban last month, which briefly allowed for the procedures to be performed until approximately 22 to 24 weeks of pregnancy. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr appealed the ruling and requested for the courts to put it on hold. This ruling allows Georgia’s abortion ban to remain in place while the state’s challenge to the September 30 ruling proceeds.

Tennessee Local Court Temporarily Blocks Total Abortion Ban for Specific Medical Exceptions

On October 17, the Tennessee Chancery Court temporarily blocked the state’s abortion ban in cases of severe complications for the pregnant person or a lethal fetal diagnosis. The court found that exceptions to the ban were vague and confusing. Find out more about this suit, which was filed by The Center for Reproductive Rights on behalf of two physicians and seven women who were denied medically necessary abortions.

As always, AbortionFinder.org is your resource for the latest on abortion laws and providers in your state.
