Dear John,
In the coming U.S. election, the stakes couldn’t be higher for the world’s women and girls.
A new segment from PBS NewsHour makes this painfully clear, with a spotlight on the fight for abortion access in Kenya. An estimated seven women and girls die each day in the country because abortion is restricted. Advocates—including our own Kenya-based staff—say the fight for reproductive rights will either continue making progress or suffer terrible rollbacks depending on the U.S. election outcome.
Our board member and longtime abortion rights champion Monica Oguttu is featured in the segment, as well as Dr. Ernest Nyamato, who leads our work to ensure high-quality abortion care in all our programs. Both live in Kenya, and both know all too well what is at stake: women’s lives and their reproductive freedom.
