John,

The November election is here, and Free Speech For People is working tirelessly to defend voters in Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas, Wisconsin, and more from escalating efforts to suppress the vote in 2024 and beyond.

But for us to succeed, we need your help. Will you donate what you can today to ensure every American can freely exercise their right to vote? [[link removed]]

Through our legal initiatives, Free Speech For People remains committed to realizing a democracy where every voice and every vote counts. We are advancing the following actions to protect our elections and our democracy:

• NEVADA: On October 31, we filed, on behalf of the NAACP Tri-State Conference of Idaho-Nevada-Utah, a motion to intervene in a case brought by the Trump campaign, Republican National Committee, and others to unlawfully and unconstitutionally purge the voter rolls based on false and repeatedly debunked claims that non-citizens are casting ballots in elections. This action is part of a deliberate nationwide effort on behalf of the Trump campaign to cast doubt on the results of the election if Trump loses again. On behalf of the NAACP, we will vigorously challenge these false claims and this dangerous scheme.

• TEXAS: In September 2021, FSFP filed a lawsuit on behalf of Mi Familia Vota and individual voters to overturn a law designed to suppress votes from underrepresented communities. In September 2024, we won a great victory in this case with the court striking down a law that criminalized canvassing by voter education organizations across Texas. And, on October 23, 2024, the court issued another ruling to protect Texas voters, striking down laws that prevent voters with disabilities, with low literacy, and with limited English proficiency from receiving help from assisters they choose and trust.

• PENNSYLVANIA: We filed a legal action to force Fulton County to turn over communications between the county and leaders of the election denialist effort to overturn the 2020 election. Fulton County, Pennsylvania, has been a hotbed of activity for Trump allies to access voting systems unlawfully and to take unauthorized copies of voting software in support of efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Several months ago, FSFP filed Right to Know Requests for all communications between officials in Fulton County and individuals and entities central to the campaign to subvert Joe Biden’s 2020 election win and install Donald Trump as president. Fulton County has refused to turn over any records as state law requires. This legal action is critical for further exposing this unlawful scheme and protecting the 2024 election.

• WISCONSIN: FSFP issued a letter to the U.S. Attorney General and Wisconsin Attorney General on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin, demanding that they investigate threatening text messages received in early October by thousands of young Wisconsin voters. The messages targeted voters between 18-25 years of age. They threatened fines and prison time for voting in a state where the voter is not eligible, though Wisconsin law allows students who live and attend college in Wisconsin to choose whether to register to vote with their school address or their home address. Wisconsin residents who attend college out-of-state may elect to vote absentee in Wisconsin.

In addition to the above actions, FSFP and Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym recently issued a joint letter [[link removed]] to Daniel Driscoll, the Clark County, Ohio prosecutor, in support of the Haitian Bridge Alliance’s recently-filed complaint seeking criminal charges against Donald Trump and JD Vance for dangerous, inflammatory, and repeated lies about the Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio. The Haitian Bridge Alliance filed a criminal complaint against Trump and Vance for inducing panic, making false alarms, and disrupting public services based on their repeated false statements about criminal acts allegedly committed by Springfield, Ohio’s Haitian community.

Further, on October 24, 2024, FSFP issued a letter [[link removed]] to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Department of Justice urging them to investigate America PAC and its founder, Elon Musk, for violating federal law that prohibits anyone from paying people to register to vote. On October 19, 2024, Musk announced a lottery with daily prizes of $1,000,000 open to individuals in seven swing states who register to vote and who sign a petition from his partisan America PAC.
