News from Congresswoman Kathy Manning

Hello,

Thank you for subscribing to my Congressional newsletter. It is my pleasure to represent you in Congress.

Our state was hit by an unprecedented disaster with the landfall of Hurricane Helene, and my heart aches to see the destruction that has followed. My thoughts are with the victims, our brave first responders, and everyone impacted by the storm, and my office stands ready to assist in any way we can. For a list of links to critical resources, please visit my website.

Governor Cooper and the Biden-Harris Administration have led a robust response and recovery effort with support from federal, local, and non-profit partners, but we know there is still work to be done to rebuild our communities in the wake of the storm.

Homeowners and renters in Forsyth County are now eligible to apply for FEMA disaster assistance to help with uninsured damage or losses. To apply, please visit DisasterAssistance.gov, download the FEMA mobile app or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.

In October, I joined Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Isabel Guzman on a visit to western North Carolina to survey the destruction left behind by Hurricane Helene. While there, we met with small business owners affected by the damage and listened to the challenges they are facing in the aftermath. During a visit to a local SBA help center, we met people assisting with SBA applications for disaster aid and thanked them for their hard work and efforts on the ground to help the small business community recover and rebuild.

My office will maintain regular communication with FEMA, North Carolina Emergency Management, and other relevant agencies. We will keep providing updates as the response and recovery efforts progress.

Read on for more information about the work my team and I are doing for you in Washington, D.C. and in North Carolina's Sixth Congressional District.

Sincerely,

Manning Leads Letter to USPS Ahead of the Election

Image

Congresswoman Manning led her North Carolina Democrat colleagues in sending a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, calling on the United States Postal Service (USPS) to take extraordinary measures to ensure North Carolinians’ absentee ballots reach county boards of elections without delay.

"Upholding the right to vote and preventing election interference are critical to protecting our democracy, and we welcome your commitment to these shared American values," the Members wrote. "Given the record number of voters who will vote by mail in the 2024 election and the Postal Service’s critical role in defending election integrity, we request that USPS make public on a daily basis certain key factors regarding election mail processing, as outlined in the September Extraordinary Measures Memo, beginning this week and continuing through November 5th."

Manning Leads Letter Calling for Vote on Disaster Relief Funding

Image

Following Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Congresswoman Manning led a letter with other House Democrats calling on House Speaker Mike Johnson to call Congress back into session to pass additional disaster funding. The letter was signed by over 60 House Democrats.

"Recent legislation has provided initial relief funds, yet these provisions fall critically short of what will be necessary to address the scale of destruction and the recovery needs for Fiscal Year 2025. We, therefore, urge you to immediately reconvene the US House of Representatives so that it can pass robust disaster relief funding," the Members wrote. "As representatives of the American people, it is our duty to ensure that every community has the resources to recover and rebuild in the wake of devastation. This is not merely a matter of policy but a profound obligation to the citizens we serve, who depend on their government for support in their most critical times of need."
