Last week, you heard from Alexis, our Executive Director, about our new Peace Is Essential campaign with Community Justice Action Fund (CJAF).
As state budgets are changing due to new needs caused by COVID-19, many governors are cutting funding for violence intervention. We CANNOT let that happen. During this time of crisis, gun violence has increased by 6%. These vital violence intervention teams are working around the clock to both keep the peace and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in many of our most historically marginalized communities who need help from trusted sources like these teams.
We launched this campaign with a digital rally and one-time grants to 7 organizations who do this crucial work, including Black Youth Project 100 (BYP 100). Now, it’s time to take action.
That's where YOU come in. We need you and every Washingtonian you know to flood Mayor Bowser's phone line, inbox, and Twitter feed demanding that she protect funding for violence intervention programs:
