Assalaamu 'alaykum John,

As you strengthen your spiritual muscles in these final ten days of
Ramadan, we wanted to share stories of the people behind the cases MLFA
is funding. Awareness of contemporary struggles and victories in the
pursuit of justice help inspire action, and we hope you keep those
facing injustice in your prayers in these blessed nights, and continue
to support
MLFA this Ramadan.

It is because of the support of people like you that we are able to fund
the work that makes justice possible, alhamdulillah. Let's stay united
in upholding the principle of justice that makes Islam a beautiful
religion and America a great nation, in shaa Allah.

Ashraf Maniar, a U.S. citizen of Pakistani origin, first began
experiencing travel difficulties in May 2016, but things took a turn for
the worst a year later. His home was raided by FBI agents two days
before he was escorted out of the airport on his way to his own wedding.
After receiving help from attorneys at CLCMA, his suspicions were
finally confirmed: he was on the No Fly List, but was given no reason
why.

This unjust designation posed significant harm to Ashraf's personal
and professional life, not to mention the reputational damage that
he's endured, and seemingly, like a contagion, passed on.

Having never experienced difficulties traveling prior to marriage, his
new wife Umaima began missing weddings, funerals, and graduations due to
inexplicable restrictions on her travel. Soon, she too would receive the
same three ominous words typed on a piece of paper: No Fly List.

Till this day, they are awaiting justification for experiencing ongoing
difficulties. Attorneys at CLCMA are suing DHS on their behalf to
challenge the constitutionality of the government's policies and
actions.
