Dear John,
Last Chance for Animals (LCA) & LCA's sister organization in Korea, Animal Liberation Wave (ALW), are staging a mass demonstration in South Korea calling for the Government to ban the dog meat trade!
WHEN: The protest takes place in South Korea tomorrow, May 14 at 12:00 noon. From the U.S. and Canada watch tonight, May 13, at 8:00 PM Pacific time & 11:00 PM Eastern time streaming on LCA's Facebook & Instagram Stories!
WHAT:A protest against the South Korean Government’s failure to ban the dog meat trade amid the COVID-19 pandemic before it falls behind China, which recently announced a plan to remove dogs from the ‘livestock’ list. We will call upon the Government to end the dog meat trade
WHERE: Gwanghwamun Plaza, South Korea
WHY: Despite the Korean Supreme Court ruling in favor of the Animal Protection Act, the illegal execution of dogs and the selling of their meat continues due to inattention by local and central government. Dogs continue to be brutally abused and electrocuted prior to being butchered and sold in illegal dog meat markets.
This demonstration signals the start of an international petition demanding that South Korean president Moon Jae-in eliminate the dog meat trade. Filthy dog farms, where there are no regulations or hygienic practices, were the breeding ground for the canine influenza A H3N2 virus first detected in 2007. They remain a ticking time bomb for another zoonotic pandemic of epic proportions.
HELP END THE SOUTH KOREAN DOG MEAT TRADE BEFORE ANOTHER PANDEMIC HITS THE WORLD!
