TakeAction Minnesota Weekly Wrap

The 2024 Election will be over in 2 days, and we know the final stretch brings so many questions along with it. We won't know for sure until the dust settles on the election and we get results, so for now, for this special edition of the News Digest, here’s what we’ve been up to at TakeAction MN:

Launching Duluth Tenants

Since January, we’ve been on the doors having nearly 20K conversations about support for trans kids, universal childcare, clean energy, and housing justice. You can see just some of the fruits of that labor at the launch of Duluth Tenants this week. Stay tuned as our other teams launch and begin their campaigns in the coming months.

The Movement for Peace Continues

Over the past year, we’ve been collaborating w/anti-war voters, the Uncommitted Movement, and Not Another Bomb to push for a ceasefire in Gaza, and now an arms embargo. In the August primary, we proudly defended pro-peace leader Ilhan Omar. And no matter who wins the presidential election in two days, we will continue to push for a permanent ceasefire and self-determination for the Palestinian people.

Reaching Voters throughout Minnesota

So far, we've reached out to voters 700K+ times (Goal: 1 mil by E-Day). The average voter we reach is <40 and more likely to be Black, Indigenous, and a Person of Color than the average MN Voter (white, 60+). We are working to build the more representative electorate we need.

Since 2018, our Busy Voters Guide makes sure MN voters have trusted information about candidates and how to vote. Nearly 90,000 voters used it in 2022, and we want to break that record by asking supporters to “triple your vote” and share with 3 friends.

With a DFL trifecta, we worked to win Earned Sick & Safe Time, nation-leading environmental impacts legislation, and lower prescription drug costs. We want to keep going, so we need the House.

On Election night, we’re not counting on having full results nationwide, but we’ll be watching some key indicators: In order to keep the MN House of Representatives under DFL control, Kamala Harris needs to win in Minnesota by 5% or more...

Key Races Throughout Minnesota

MN 14A in St. Cloud is one of the tightest and most promising races to keep the MN House in DFL control. Abdi Daisane has been a community leader for years, and we’re working to make sure he has much to celebrate on election night.

In the western suburbs, a special election is underway that could decide whether or not the DFL keeps the Trifecta and a 1-seat majority. Ann Johnson Stewart is a climate champion up against a GOP perennial candidate backed by the utility industry.

Right wing extremists are hustling to win school board seats. With Education Minnesota and Out Front Minnesota, we’ve fought back with a slate of endorsements for school boards. Looking forward to celebrating some wins for our kids and educators on election night.

TakeAction Roundup

After the dust settles and results are in, we'll keep pushing for what we know we need:

  • Fully funded public education
  • Universal childcare
  • Housing justice
  • Climate Action
  • and an arms embargo

If Democrats have a great election, we’ll keep pushing for progressive action because elections mark the beginning of campaigns, not the end. No matter what: we'll care for each other.
