Hello John, Is the Supreme Court even in session if they aren’t ruling on issues that impact what we do with our uteri? In March they heard a case on whether it is constitutional to require an abortion doctor to have admitting privileges at a hospital. Fun fact, they already ruled it was UNCONSTITUTIONAL just three years ago, but I guess groveling for bodily autonomy is a kink for some of these justices. Looking at you Thomas and Kavanaugh. Then last week, with badass RBG participating from her hospital bed, the deadly combo of Little Sisters of the Poor v. Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania v. Trump begged the court to allow your boss to deny YOU birth control coverage in YOUR healthcare plan because Mr. Burns has a “moral objection.” That’s right, they think such pillars of virtue like Jeff Bezos or Sam Walton should be able to claim on “moral grounds” that your employer-based insurance shouldn’t cover birth control aka you shouldn’t be having sex for fun. So they can fuck over workers, but you can’t fuck whomever you want in your time off because...morals. Things are going great guyz. With five conservative justices on the Court, and two of those being Trump appointees who get starry eyed over oppressing women, the odds of overturning these exemptions are not looking good and as usual, if they get their way, those with the fewest resources will suffer the most. Stay tuned… because you can trust that your friends at AAF are planning for any and all outcomes so when these decisions come down, we’ll have a plan how we can take action! This is why we fight, during a pandemic and always. I am so grateful to have you as a partner. Please stay safe and healthy. Xo |
