To my fellow Iowans, I pose a crucial question: Are you better off now than you were four years ago? For more than half of Americans, the resounding answer is no, and the reason is clear: Democratic policies that have scarred our nation.
From the very first day of the Harris-Biden administration, we witnessed a dramatic shift in policy aided along by the Democratic majorities in both the House and Senate. Rather than focusing on the needs of American citizens, Vice President Harris and President Biden prioritized dismantling critical policy measures established during the Trump administration. Among their earliest actions was the repeal of key immigration policies like "Remain in Mexico" and "Title 42," which had played essential roles in safeguarding our borders.
The consequences of these decisions have been profound and troubling. Over 10 million illegal immigrants have entered our country unchecked—many without adequate vetting or health screenings. Alarmingly, over 350 of those admitted were on terror watchlists, and more than 15,000 had convictions for sexual offenses. As crime rates surge in our communities, we are forced to reckon with the reality of a border crisis orchestrated by this administration. Fentanyl seizures by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other law enforcement agencies have risen dramatically. Tragically for families and communities across the nation, fentanyl-related deaths have emerged as the leading cause of death for adults between the ages of 18 and 45.
Consider the impact of illegal immigration on an already strained housing supply. After officials in Democratic-led cities reportedly used school gymnasiums to house migrants, the House took decisive action condemning the use of elementary and secondary schools for shelter for illegal aliens. In addition to declining housing availability, housing affordability also remains a neglected issue by Vice President Harris and President Biden. Prices for homes and rentals have skyrocketed, and you—lawful American citizens—are paying the price as your leaders prioritize the needs of illegal immigrants over yours.
Confidence on the economic front is waning. Many Americans are feeling the weight of 40-year high inflation, record gas prices, escalating grocery bills, and unprecedented budget deficits. Instead of owning up to the consequences of their policies, the Harris-Biden administration has persistently painted a rosy picture, claiming that the economy is thriving and that the border is secure—only to shift narratives as election year approaches.
Now, in a surprising turn, Democrats acknowledge the crisis at our southern border and the skyrocketing cost of living. Yet rather than taking responsibility for their failed policies, they attempt to deflect blame onto President Trump despite having held power for 12 of the last 16 years.
Make no mistake: Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and the Democrats in Congress own this border crisis. They own the broken economy. Under Republican leadership, we enjoyed secure borders, a flourishing economy that benefited all Americans, and a sense of optimism for the future. It’s time to return to those days.
