When Country First launched in the wake of the attack on the United States Capitol, our mission was clear and unwavering: defend democracy from those determined to dismantle it. We know MAGA forces are out there—forces that refuse to accept the will of the people when it doesn’t suit their agenda. As reported by the New York Times:

“A transfer of power took place in 2021 only because enough Republicans stood up to Trump. And they may not do so in the future.”

Additionally, “In battleground Pennsylvania, dozens of election officials are pro-Trump election  deniers, ready to cause chaos”

That’s precisely why we launched the Election Certification Initiative—a bold and unprecedented campaign to ensure that public officials uphold their oath to certify free and fair elections. No other pro-democracy organization is tackling this challenge so directly. And in just over a month, we’ve already reached over 1.15 million Americans with our message, setting the foundation for the accountability our democracy needs.

But the fight doesn’t stop there. If MAGA forces lose at the ballot box, they’ll work tirelessly to pressure officials to reject certification, undermining our democratic process. That’s why our initiative to combat this anti-democracy pressure is essential—and why we’re doubling down.
