Hi! I'm back again to continue our walk through the park, but
this time I'm introducing you to your tour guide for today,
Evan.

Us dogs looooove kids, but we have some pretty amazing humans who
work here at Glacier too, and I think they're doing a great job
teaching the next generation of adventurers about this special
place.

Take it away, Evan!

"As I stash the last remaining items in my backpack, I catch a
glimpse of a yellow school bus rolling to a stop. I can hear the
students’ excitement through the mile-high snow berms, permeating
through the walls of our education building.

Armed with the widest of smiles, I walk towards the bus, a bus
filled with students who await a snowshoe adventure in Glacier
National Park.

As a Glacier Education Technician, I lead field trips for K-12
school groups that venture into the park during winter and
spring. Students come from all over the northwest Montana.

They have a chance to experience the park right before the height
of the summer season, when there are fewer visitors and for some,
even feeling like they have the park to themselves.

For every winter field trip, we facilitate a variety of
grade-specific activities, centering on winter ecology and snow
science.

When I tell people what I do for living, they usually follow up
with something along the lines of “you’re so lucky!”

I wholeheartedly agree.

While there are challenges that come with experiential teaching,
I am always excited to see that yellow bus pull up.

I am always ecstatic to see a student smile outside.

It’s my chance to share and learn about this special place with
the next generation of park rangers, scientists, policy makers,
artists, teachers, explorers, and adventurers.

Thank you Glacier National Park Conservancy for supporting our
educational goals and allowing students to come explore Glacier
National Park."
