John,
The last day to vote in the 2024 general election is this Tuesday, November 5th. While it’s unclear who will win the critical presidential election or gain majority control of Congress, one thing is for sure: AIPAC had a massive influence on this election cycle.
While AIPAC has been around for decades, they only started contributing directly to political candidates in the 2022 midterms — now, the right-wing megadonor-funded group is one of the largest outside spenders in our elections.
The Intercept published a new report revealing just how much the anti-Palestinian lobby group has impacted political races in the United States this year. Here are the major takeaways:
- AIPAC spent in more than 80% of all congressional races, seeking to influence 363 seats in the House and 26 in the Senate, leaving very few races untouched by their right-wing money.
- The group supported more Republicans than Democrats, but spent more money supporting conservative, so-called Democratic candidates who challenged and unseated progressive Squad members Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush in the two most expensive House primaries in history.
- After every single one of its wins this cycle, AIPAC tweeted, “Being pro-Israel is good policy and good politics!” While it won most of its races, 57 of AIPAC’s candidates had no primary and 88 had no opponent.
With just two days until the end of the 2024 election cycle, will you rush a grassroots contribution of ANY amount to fuel Justice Democrats’ work to recruit new progressive leaders and reject AIPAC?
