Deteriorating LaPrele Dam Ordered to be Breached

Following ongoing monitoring and a recent thorough inspection of the condition of LaPrele Dam, Wyoming State Engineer Brandon Gebhart *issued an order [ [link removed] ]* to breach the 115-year-old dam. The recent discovery of a large, new crack above the dam’s outlet works, the deterioration of previously identified structural deficiencies, and the operational limitations of the existing dam led to the decision.

“I want to commend the State Engineer and his staff for recognizing the significant risks of a potential dam failure and proactively addressing them before a disaster occurred,” Governor Gordon said. “This decision was not made lightly, and we recognize the impact this will have on those who rely on that water for irrigation.”

Governor Gordon Addresses Regulation of Energy Industry at National Oil and Gas Commission

Governor Mark Gordon concluded his two year Chairmanship of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC) with an address to membership at their annual meeting in Colorado Springs, Colo. on October 29.

He spoke about many of the onerous regulations, particularly those emanating from Washington, DC, and that they are not necessarily informed by local conditions, and are seemingly driven more by politics than the prudent regulation of the industry. He also pointed out the IOGCC provides a forum for honest discussion of energy issues and regulations, as well as the true cost of those regulations. *That dialogue can lead to responsible regulatory reform, the Governor said.  [ [link removed] ]*
