ACTION SPOTLIGHT

Help communities facing hurricanes and
flooding

With just days until Election Day, we’re
at a critical turning point for our nation.

In the wake of the devastation
wrought by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the urgency of climate
action is clearer than ever. Extreme weather and rising seas are
wreaking havoc on people’s lives, and repeated flooding affects
thousands of communities across the country. FEMA can help by
enacting common sense policies, but they need to feel the
pressure from us.

Check out NRDC’s new Flooded Again
tool to learn more about where repeat flooding occurs ( [link removed] ) – then, urge FEMA to protect homes from more intense flooding
before it’s too late. ( [link removed] )

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Good News! Supreme Court Upholds
Lifesaving Pollution Standards

The U.S. Supreme Court recently rejected
an attempt by industry groups and some states to halt the
Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) carbon standards for
power plants.

This is the third emergency appeal on EPA standards that the High
Court rejected last month – the other two public health wins
maintained vital safeguards for methane and mercury and other air
pollutants.

NRDC and other environmental groups intervened in all three
lawsuits to oppose the industry’s stay request. That means states
and companies will need to comply with the standards – but the
fight’s far from over.

decisions and what’s next in our fight to defend these important

DEEP DIVE

’Tis the Season … To Waste Less Food!

As we get ready for Thanksgiving, we’re
thinking about how to reduce food waste in our households – and
we’re not the only ones. Nearly a decade ago, the federal
government committed to cutting food loss and waste in half by
2030. Now, after incorporating comments from NRDC and others on a
draft plan, the Biden administration has released its
long-awaited final strategy to help meet that goal while
improving food security and saving families and businesses money.
