Trump's AG Bill Barr wants the power to look through your web browsing
history and that of any American—including journalists, politicians, and
political rivals—without a warrant. Today, Mitch McConnell may hand it to
him by adding terrible new provisions to the Patriot Act.^1
Mitch McConnell is also using the reauthorization of the Patriot Act to
shield Trump’s political allies from the same peeping eyes eager to look
into your phone, computer and laptop.

Congress was supposed to vote on the Patriot Act back in March, before the
nation went into the coronavirus stay-at-home orders. But Trump and Mitch
faced a huge roadblock: activists like you and many members of Congress.
Thanks to your advocacy, McConnell failed to muster the votes needed to
extend the Trump administration’s spying powers. But they’re determined to
push it through now, while everyone is rightly focused on fighting the
coronavirus.
McConnell is literally trying to take a privacy safeguard designed for the
press and religious groups and instead give it only to Trump’s friends and
people suspected of being foreign agents. He's also trying to sneak
warrantless surveillance of the internet and search histories into an
amendment.
These are two of the most cynical attempts to undermine surveillance
reform we have ever seen, and they threaten to make a Patriot Act
reauthorization even worse.
There's only one shot at stopping this. Our allies in Congress are putting
together three crucial reform amendments. But with this important vote now
upon us, your senators need to hear that you expect them to support the
amendments that will stop the Trump administration from abusing his powers
