Quarantine frustrations are just one of the ways the COVID-19 pandemic and the gun violence epidemic are feeding on each other.
Everytown for Gun Safety

John — tempers are flaring across America and some frustrations are taking the form of deadly gun violence.

You may have read about the security guard in Flint, Michigan who was shot and killed for refusing entry to a shopper not wearing a protective mask. Or the anti-government demonstrations by gun-wielding activists in Nevada, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Virginia. Or the two fast food restaurant workers in Oklahoma who were shot and wounded because the restaurant's seating area was closed. Or the more than 100 people who are shot and killed, and the hundreds more who are wounded, by guns every day in America, even during this pandemic.

Quarantine frustrations are just one of the ways the COVID-19 pandemic and the gun violence epidemic are feeding on each other. And we need your urgent help.

The situation is bad, and, John, you won't be surprised to know that the gun lobby and its allies are making things worse.

  • By tweeting "LIBERATE MICHIGAN," President Trump urged on the armed demonstrations against the state's closure orders.

  • By deeming gun shops to be "essential businesses," the federal government supported the tidal wave of gun purchases that have taxed the background check system.

  • The NRA is actively pursuing its extreme "guns everywhere, for anyone" agenda, including distribution of terrifying PSAs aimed at scaring already frightened people into buying guns.

We're pulling out all the stops right now to protect people's lives and fight for the common-sense gun laws that overwhelming majorities of Americans want. We're setting up and staffing virtual campaign offices in battleground states to register 100,000 young gun sense voters. And we're keeping a spotlight on the despicable behavior of the NRA, its friends in Congress, and the gun lobby's #1 ally, President Trump.

The COVID-19 pandemic hasn't slowed gun violence. We need you with us today.

Thank you for all you do to keep America safe from the scourge of gun violence.

Sincerely,

Shannon Watts
