I'm running for Senate because I know Texans deserve better than Ted Cruz.

I was born and raised in Dallas. In the summers, we drove to Brownsville to visit my grandma, and when I was a little older, I went to a YMCA camp at Possum Kingdom Lake. 

I played high school football at Hillcrest in Dallas ISD, was captain of my college team at Baylor, and trained for the NFL draft in Houston. I’m about as Texan as it gets.

After attending law school and serving in the Obama administration, my wife, Aly, and I decided to make our home and start our family right back in the incredible community that helped raise me.

My passion and love for my community is what inspired me to run for Congress against a 22-year Republican incumbent. I won in part by personally knocking on doors all over our district to introduce myself to voters and let them know I'd be there for them no matter what.

And then I was there for my community when the lights went out during the deadly winter freeze while Ted Cruz flew off to Cancún.

It was one of the busiest times I can remember – I was coordinating with FEMA to access federal resources, working with local governments to find buildings with power and set up warming centers, and volunteering at food banks because when the lights go out, people rely on them more than ever.

Ted wasn't there because he doesn't care. If you're ready to give Texans a leader who does care, please chip in now to help me win and finally bid farewell to Ted Cruz.

My love for the community and the state that raised me – and on the flip side, Ted Cruz's lack of care and sense of responsibility to the people he is supposed to represent – is why I decided to run against him.

Now, I want to explain why I know we can win.

With help from grassroots supporters like you, I've spent the last year and a half traveling all over Texas, meeting with voters who are just as fed up with Ted Cruz as I am – and that hard work has significantly moved the needle in our favor. We've gone from down by double digits to UP BY 1 POINT in a recent poll.

But now, Ted Cruz and his cronies have pumped more than $40 million into Texas to try and make sure we never take the lead, and we're running out of time to fight back.

Reaching our daily $500,000 GOTV goal is a crucial step, which is why I'm personally asking: Can I count on you to chip in $5 or more to help me kick Ted Cruz out of the Senate once and for all and bring real leadership to Texas? It's time for the leadership Texans need, want, and deserve!
